COMEBACK KIDS STRIKE AGAIN
Team rookie Drew Torres and long time
Cyclone Priamo Reyes lead team to victory
May 31, 2026 - After taking a 5-0 lead
after the first inning, the Cyclones coughed up their lead
to the Northside Rangers in the 3rd inning, allowing the
Rangers to score 9 runs to take a 10-5 lead over the
Cyclones after 3 innings. In the 4th inning, the Cyclones
mounted a rally to plate 4 runs by the bottom of the order,
capped by Priamo Reyes 2 run single to draw the Cyclones
within a run. Mgr. Dean Cosme came on in relief of starter
Justin Putnal and settled things down and only allowed 1 run
over 5+ innings to keep a leash on the Rangers.
Now, with an 11-9 deficit, the Cyclones had
gone down quietly for 3 straight innings before coming to
bat in the 8th and final inning. The inning began with
Drew Torres initially being hit by a pitch that was
wrongfully called a swing by the home plate ump.
Torres exalted revenge in a way as he struck out but reach
base when the pitch skipped past the catcher and he wasn't
able to secure the out. Jorge Castillo followed by reaching
on an error by the Rangers to put runners on first and
second with none out. Priamo Reyes singled to drive in
Torres and then Castillo and Reyes moved up a base each on a
wild pitch. Birthday Boy Eddie Baray walked to load the
bases. Two consecutive Sac Flies by Camilo Galvez and
Craig Baser respectively gave the Cyclones the 12-11 lead
that saw Cosme close out the game and secure the victory.

BACK ON THE ATTACK
Eddie Baray and company stifle first
place Rangers 4-1
May 17, 2026 - The first batter of the
game reached on an error to short and scored shortly
thereafter on another infield error. After that, starting
pitcher Eddie Baray would only allow 4 base runners in 5
innings of work, in what was an overall dominating
performance by Baray. In the 6th inning, Baray gave way to
Chuck Poteet who pretty much cruised through his first 3
innings of work but began to show signs of fatigue in the
9th inning attempting to close out the game. In the end, he
completed the task and sealed the 4-1 victory. Being as it
was only the second game the Cyclones have played in 7 weeks
due to inclement weather, the offense for the Cyclones has
left something to be desired as of late and needs some
consistency to get back in the groove. While the 4
runs that the Cyclones scored was good enough to win on
Sunday, the mental mistakes and base running errors cannot
happen if the Cyclones hope to make a deep run in the
postseason this summer.

NOT ENOUGH
Late rally by Marauders downs
Cyclones
Apr 27, 2026 - The Cyclones scored 10
runs on Sunday and somehow it wasn't enough. When that
happens, there was a defensive failure that needs
correcting. In this case, it was both the pitching and the
fielding that hurt the Cyclones. Starting pitcher Dean Cosme
pitched well for 3 innings but the wheels came off for him
on the 4th innings as he allowed the Marauders to tied the
game 6-6 after the Cyclones had done a great job at working
counts, taking walks and driving balls into the gaps to
score 6 runs in 3 innings. In fact, they did it all game as
they then played small ball in the 6th inning with 2 sac
bunts and a sac fly to score 2 runs to give themselves a 2
run lead after 6 innings. But the lead wouldn't hold as
relief pitcher Chuck Poteet ran into some barrels, lost his
control and then the fielding didn't help either as the
Cyclones gave up the lead and eventually lost the game 12-10
in 7 innings of play.

COMEBACK KIDS
9 run 6th inning stuns Royals
who had 6 run lead going into the final innings.
Mar 30, 2026 - As comebacks go, this
was a pretty darn good one. The Cyclones were
sleepwalking through the first 5 innings on Sunday. The
Royals starting pitcher had the Cyclones reaching, leaning
and mostly off balance all afternoon until the 6th inning.
For the Royals it went downhill from there. For the
Cyclones it was a reawakening that was much needed. The
inning started when Tom West reached on an error was capped
when Tom West, 11 batters later, lined a single to right
center to drive in 2 runs putting a feather in the hat of
this inning. In between, Chuck Poteet, Craig Baser and Drew
Torres all flirted with home runs, but got huge hits just
the same instead, with Drew and Chuck with doubles and Craig
with a long 2 run single.
On the mound, Juan Zuniga started for the
Cyclones. While Juan pitch 5-1/3 innings, it's what happened
at the beginning and what happened at the end that define
this outing. Juan allowed the first 5 batters to reach base
before getting the first out, 4 of which scored. After that,
Juan settled in nicely, got out of the inning and pitched
into the 5th inning. It was in the 5th where Juan ran into
trouble again, allowing 3 more runs to score and only
registering 1 out before giving way to Dean Cosme. Cosme
threw one pitch to get 2 outs and get Juan out of a bases
loaded jam. In the 7th, Cosme allowed 1 run to score
before inducing a grounder for a force play to finish the
10-8 comeback victory.

DOUBLE HEADER LIKE DAY & NIGHT
Cyclones stifled in the opener of
double header, offense explodes in the night cap
Mar 23, 2026 - For the first time in 7
seasons, the Northside Rangers finally have defeated the
Houston Cyclones. The defeated them with good hitting, good
pitching and good defense. The Rangers have dramatically
improved and it showed in their first match up against the
Cyclones this season. A close game for the first 3 innings,
Cyclones starting pitcher Dean Cosme faltered in the 4th as
the Rangers knocked Cosme around for 6 runs in the inning to
take a 9-2 lead over the Cyclones and did not relent from
there. The Rangers would tack on 4 more runs to finish the
day with a 13-5 victory of the Cyclones, who had lost 2
games to begin the season for the first time in 9 seasons.
In the nightcap, it was a completely polar
opposite experience as the Cyclones took on their long time
rivals the Marauders and while historically both teams
typically play each well, on this day, things did not go the
way of the swash bucklers. Dazed and confused from the first
game, the Cyclones bats woke up in game 2 to the tune of 12
runs on 5 hits and 7 walks, sending 16 batters to the plate
in the first inning alone. Overall, the Cyclones scored 17
runs on 16 hits and 8 walks defeating the Marauders 17-5 to
get their first W of the season.

RUSTY CYCLONES
After 4 weeks off, the Cyclones were
not ready for Opening Day
Mar 16, 2026 - There wasn't any
aspect of the Cyclones game yesterday afternoon that seemed
ready for the season. Starting pitcher Dean Cosme was
ineffective, lasting only 3 innings. The offense seemed out
of sync and in need of finding a rhythm. And the worst
culprit of the day, the defense, seemed to be sleep walking
with errant throws and lackadaisical glove work.
Hopefully the Cyclones can find their rhythm quick as the
season is in full swing and a double header looms on the
horizon.
In the meantime, Sunday's game resulted in a
15-8 loss to the Houston Royals, a team that is finding it's
way in the league and has struggled mightily in the past.
Sunday however, was a different story. They hit the ball
well and their defense, while suspect. held up better than
the Cyclones.

CHANGE IN THE AIR?
As the Spring 2026 Season quickly
approached, are the Cyclones ready for change?
Feb 23, 2026 - When the Houston
Cyclones take the field next month, in early March, the one
thing that will look familiar will be the faces on the team.
What won't look familiar will be their uniforms. It's
well known that Cyclones manager Dean Cosme is a big New
York Mets fan. The team's uniforms have been modeled
after their New York counterparts for several seasons now,
as well their color scheme has always been orange and blue
except for their first 3 seasons where the color scheme was
taken from the Brooklyn Cyclones, hence the name.
Not wanting to be too obvious about the
origins of the colors, Cosme chose to make the blue a more
neutral blue. Not so navy, not so royal. That would last
until the Fall 2015 season when after managing the team as
the Houston Cardinals for 1 season, the original name of
Spring Cyclones was restarted and the colors now were an ode
to the Mets, royal and orange. Through a variety of
iterations, the color scheme had remained that way until the
Spring 2025 season where after creating a few mock ups for a
new uniform, the team chose the 2000 Mets color scheme of
black, blue, orange and white. Fire!
Shortly before the end of the Spring 2025
season, the Cyclones were gifted a surprise set of new
uniforms which were replica style uniforms of the new Mets
away uniforms, what I like to refer to as the blue on blue
outline uniforms. Those jerseys were used for the entirety
of the Fall 2025 season that just ended. Now, for 2026, the
Cyclones are once again going to sport new jerseys and use a
set for home and away. See the mock ups below. With a few
new faces, one returning face and a couple of departures,
the Houston Cyclones have gone through this before, but the
core remains and that's why the Cyclones will be a force of
nature to reckon with for quite some time. See you on the
field!
